Art by Claire Gustafson Bodden
Artist from Dallas, Texas living in the Cayman Islands
About me
Claire Gustafson Bodden is a 26 year old artist, that’s currently living in Grand Cayman, and is pursuing a career as a fulltime painter. She graduated May, 2021 from Baylor University with a BFA in studio art with a concentration in printmaking. But she fell in love with acrylic painting.
Claire works primarily with landscapes, and oceanscapes. She has always been fascinated by the concept of the sublime, and the overwhelming power of the natural world. Some of her biggest inspirations are the romantic painters of the 1800s specifically J.M.W Turner and John Martin.
For the past three years, Claire worked in the restoration of antique maps and illustrations dating as early as the 1450s to the 1800s. From working on some of Albrecht Dürer prints to Audobons, Claire learned alot about color theory, and layering, and is ready to utilize that knowledge throughout her own work. Through this experience, she hopes to evolve her style and lean into her love of the early 1800s masters.
As Claire pursues her career as a full-time artist she intends to use oceanscapes and landscapes to tell a story through narrative.
